Bryan sagt oft: „Don´t worry about the Asana, worry about your breathing“, und gibt damit einen wunderbaren Einblick in das, was Yoga so besonders macht.

„Actually, what we are doing is not yoga. Because of the nature of yoga, it cannot be anything one does – not asanas (poses), meditation, not anything. Yoga is the state of mind or state of being while performing the asana, pratayama, meditation, or any other endeavor.“ Bryan Kest.

„There is no enlightenment at the end of a pose. Actually, there is no end to these poses. It seems to me in a general sense we as a society are enamored with the mystical, mysterious, the unseen & unknown. We are looking for the hidden teaching, the secret scroll or fountain of youth, and of course heaven and hell. Yoga practice seems to be used to access some deeper dimension or some enlightened state. Understand right now there is no connection between flexibility and enlightenment.“ Bryan Kest

Ein paar direkte Fragen an Bryan im Interview – Im Zuge eines Telefonates hat Romana Bryan 3 Fragen gestellt:

Romana: „I know your family is very important to you and if you are traveling so much, teaching yoga to the people, you don’t see your family and your kids for many weeks. What is your deep motivation behind that? Why are you traveling around the world for several months in the year, teaching yoga?“

Bryan: „I feel like when people invite me to teach yoga at their studio, in their city, it’s an honor; I feel very honored, and also, I feel like the universe has put me in a position to spread yoga throughout the world, and I take that responsibility seriously, and I feel like I found a nice balance between being home with my family for 70% of the year and traveling for 30% of the year. So, I found for myself a nice balance that’s working right now.“

Romana: „There are a lot of vinyasa yoga styles around. Anusara, Jivamukti and so on. What is the big difference for you between power yoga and other vinyasa yoga styles? I mean, if the people are reading „power yoga by Bryan Kest“ here in Germany, what is your message with this name?“

Bryan: „Power Yoga“ is really „Bryan’s Yoga.“ I coined that term, and it’s just really a nice name. It’s not a system of yoga, it’s just the way Bryan likes to teach yoga, which is really a strong physical practice that integrates meditative qualities.“

Romana: „What about meditation? You teach very strong asana practice, but also meditation in your classes… Why is meditation so important to you?“

Bryan: „Because meditation addresses the mental state, and that’s the largest factor in our health and all the relationships in our life. You’re not going to heal relationships with loose hamstrings.“
